DITSHWANELO – The Botswana Centre for Human Rights

DITSHWANELO – The Botswana Centre for Human Rights was established in 1993 and since then has remained the only organisation in Botswana dealing with varied aspects of human rights. We work to advocate for changes in laws, policies and practices, and to raise public awareness of rights and responsibilities.  We also provide paralegal services to those earning less than the minimum wage of P600.00 (UK pounds 60/US $85) per month. In 2012, the Government introduced its Legal Aid Project, which ran until September 2014. During 2014, the Legal Aid Bill was passed and a decision was made to establish the Legal Aid Programme. Since then, while implementing policies are being developed, the Legal Aid Project has been suspended indefinitely.
